Forms of Becoming brings together paintings, works on paper, and sculptural explorations that consider how things take shape—and how those shapes remain open to change.

Across these works, pathways, compartments, threads, and irregular forms suggest structures that both hold and constrain. Boundaries gather things together, but they also leave openings. Earlier marks remain visible beneath later layers. A line might divide a space, connect its parts, or wander beyond it.

I am interested in the structures we create and inherit—systems, boundaries, roles, expectations, and identities—and what happens when lived experience begins to exceed them.

My process begins with freedom: spontaneous marks, color, and movement without a predetermined composition. I cover some passages and preserve others, allowing a structure to emerge. Then I introduce a change that unsettles what has become familiar—sometimes simply turning the work upside down. That shift asks me to look again, loosen my attachment to what I thought the work was, and respond to what is actually there.

Through this process, I explore how form can offer a sense of order while remaining flexible enough to accommodate uncertainty, contradiction, and change.

Please join me for the artist reception!

Come by Saturday, November 7, from 5–8 pm for an evening of art and conversation at I Street Art Studios, 1727 I Street, Sacramento.

Wine and cheese will be served. Bring a friend, stay awhile, and spend some time with the work.

The exhibition will also be open earlier that day from 12–9 pm.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP is appreciated, but not required.
